Calming music is where relaxation shades into the 'sleep sounds' territory — slow-tempo, low-volume, predictable audio that steadies your heart rate and gives your brain something non-threatening to attend to. The mechanism is the same as the other tools: it lowers arousal and occupies the mind. It's also worth noting the same recordings that calm a classroom or a busy workspace work for a racing mind at bedtime — steady, boring, and samey is the point, not moving or surprising.
